Solanke: Postecoglou delighted with Tottenham forward’s non-goal contributions

F1: Hamilton reflects on ‘memorable’ drive of Ayrton Senna’s car at Sao Paulo GP

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is delighted with the non-goal contributions of Dominic Solanke after he netted a brace in their 4-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The Lilywhites fell behind to Morgan Rogers’ first half strike before staging their comeback in the second half through Solanke’s brace and solo efforts from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison.

It took Solanke to four goals in eight league games this season but Postecoglou is very impressed by his other contributions to the team.

“Yeah, the goals are great and of course as a striker I am sure he loves the fact he can score a couple of goals, but even if he didn’t, again I can’t speak highly enough of what he is contributing to our team at the moment,” the Australian tactician told the club website.

“Long may it continue because with him playing that way, it just makes us a better team.”

Senegal midfielder Pape Mater Sarr also impressed in the game and Postecoglou waxed lyrical about his work rate.

“I rate him so highly. His capacity again to work for the team but also the quality he has in breaking open oppositions with his running with the ball,” he added.

“I knew he’d be important [against Villa] because they’ve got such a hard-working midfield with Onana, Tielemans, McGinn in there, Rogers. They don’t really play with wide players, they work awfully hard in that midfield area and you’ve got to match that.

“You’re never going to break them open unless you do that. He just put in another enormous effort. Along with Rodri [Bentancur] and Biss [Bissouma] when he came on, and Deki of course.

The victory moved Spurs up to seventh and within two points of sixth-placed Villa.

They will next take on Turkish giants Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday night.
