PL: Bournemouth end Man City’s unbeaten; Arsenal beaten as Liverpool reclaim top spot

The biggest result in matchday 10 in the Premier League emanated from the Vitality Stadium, where Bournemouth defeated Manchester City 2-1 to end the defending champions’ 32-match unbeaten run on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The first goal of the game came from Antoine Semenyo in the ninth minute, with the Ghanaian winger registering his fourth league goal of the season. After some brilliant work down the left flank from Milos Kerkez, the Hungarian full-back pulled the ball back into the box for Semenyo, who somehow controlled it before turning Josko Gvardiol and beating goalkeeper Ederson with a deft finish.

The Cherries got their second goal in the 64th minute through record signing Evanilson, who got his second goal in as many games. Kerkez once again was the creator, as his inviting cross from the left was met with a seeping finish from the extending Evanilson for the Brazilian’s third goal of the season.

The visitors were clearly discombobulated, but they made a late push, and City were rewarded with a goal from Gvardiol, his third of the season. The Croatian defender rose highest to meet a cross from Ilkay Gundogan in the 82nd minute, but it turned out to be just a consolation.

The defeat ended City’s dominance over Bournemouth, who had lost their previous 14 meetings, as the Cherries made it back-to-back home wins against a top-six opposition after also beating Arsenal at the Vitality.

Meanwhile, Liverpool secured a 2-1 comeback win over Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield to go top of the Premier League standings with 25 points after 10 games.

Turkish full-back Ferdi Kadioglu opened his Brighton account with a thumping finish past goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the 14th minute to give the Seagulls a shocking lead. However, Cody Gakpo levelled proceedings for Liverpool in the 70th minute as his cross-cum shot beat everyone to creep into the post, leaving goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen rooted to a spot.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah got the winning goal for the Reds in the 72nd minute with a fantastic left-footed curler, his seventh of the season and 164th in the Premier League, as he became the outright eighth topscorer in the league’s history.

Elsewhere, an Alexander Isak strike in the 12th minute was the difference at St. James’ Park as Newcastle United defeated Arsenal 1-0 to end their five-game winless run, while the Gunners remain without a win in three matches.

Isak, who had been without a goal in his first seven Premier League games this season, made it three in three after powering home a header off a cross from Anthony Gordon to slot one past goalkeeper David Raya.

Nottingham Forest secured their biggest Premier League win in 28 years after putting three past West Ham United in a 3-0 victory at City Ground thanks to goals from Chris Wood, Callum Hudson Odoi, and Nigerian defender Ola Aina.

Wood opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a close range header for his eighth goal of the season; Hudson-Odoi doubled the hosts lead in the 65th minute with a curling effort past Lukasz Fabianski; and Aina opened his season account with a powerful left-footed finish into the top corner in the 78th minute.

Forest continued their fairytale start to the season with five wins, four draws and one defeat in 10 games as they moved into third place in the standings for the first time since 1998.

In the other games, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace settled for a 2-2 draw in a four-goal thriller at the Molineux. Trevoh Chalobah got the visitors in front in the 60th minute, but Jorgen Strand Larsen pulled Wolves level seven minutes later.

The hosts then completed the turnaround in the 72nd minute through Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes, but Marc Guehi got Palace’s second in the 77th minute to ensure both sides shared the spoils.

10-man Ipswich Town played out a 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Portman Road, with Jordan Ayew’s second-half stoppage time equalizer canceling out Leif Davis’ opener for the hosts.

At St. Mary’s Stadium, an 85th-minute goal from Adam Armstrong was enough to give Southampton a 1-0 win over Everton, as the Saints recorded their first win back in the top flight.
