Premier League: Stones rescues all three points for Man City, Liverpool edge past Chelsea

Manchester City extended their Premier League unbeaten run to a club-record 31 matches after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at the Molineux, Afrosport reports.

Wolves took a surprise early lead through Jorgen Strand Larsen with an assist from Nelson Semedo just seven minutes into the match.

City defender Josko Gvardiol leveled the game in 33rd-minute after picking up the ball in a space and curled a beautiful shot past goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Stones’s late winner in the 95th-minute goal was initially disallowed by Referee Chris Kavanagh, believing Bernardo Silva Silva had blocked Wolves goalkeeper Sa from an offside position, but was later overturned bringing boos round the ground from the home fans.

City remains undefeated in 11 games in all competitions with 20 points, while wolves remain winless this season dropping back into 20th position.

Meanwhile at Anfield, Curtis Jones marked the birth of his first child last week by scoring the winner for Liverpool in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.

Mohamed Salah opened the score sheet for the Reds with penalty in the 29th minute after Levi Colwill’s challenge on Jones inside the box was judged to be a foul by referee John Brookes.

In the 48th minute, Jackson equalised for the Blues after receiving a threaded pass from Moises Caicedo. The assistant referee’s flag was raised immediately afterwards for offside, but replays showed the forward had timed his run and VAR duly awarded the goal.

It was a dramatic end to a half which had also seen Cody Gakpo have a goal ruled out for Salah being offside in the build-up and Trent Alexander-Arnold escaping from an in-game VAR check for stepping on Jadon Sancho’s foot in the box in the seventh minute.

Curtis Jones evaded the offside trap in the 51st minute after receiving a clever ball into the box by Mohammed Salah to score past Robert Sanchez to hand the Reds’ the win for the closing games in the encounter.

The result keeps the Reds at top of the league table making it 10 wins in 11 games since Arne Slot took charge.
