Remo Stars returned to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after a 1-0 win in Ikenne against Bendel Insurance on Sunday in a match-day eight encounter, Afrosport reports.
Ghanaian export, Dela Akorli scored the Sky-Blue Stars’ only goal of the game in the 43rd minute when he pounced on Nduka Junior’s cross and converted expertly.
The Ogun State based side who finished second last season threw everything at increasing the tally, but the first half effort was enough to return to the top.
Victory takes Daniel Ogunmodede’s side to 18 points, one ahead of second placed Rivers United who travel to Niger Tornadoes on Monday.
In other games played on Sunday, Bayelsa United pipped Heartland 1-0 at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenegoa courtesy Rabiu Abdullahi’s solitary effort.
In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors defeated Enyimba 1-0, Usman Abass netted the only goal of the game just before the half-time whistle. Elsewhere, Sunshine Stars pipped Nasarawa United 1-0, Opeoluwa Adeshina’s goal sealing maximum points.
In Umuahia, Paul Samson, Ojonugwa Adejoh and Sunday Megwo were on target as Abia Warriors thrashed Plateau United 3-1.
In the day’s other game, Muhammed Zukifilu scored the equaliser as Kano Pillars came from behind to earn a point against visiting Kwara United.

Adeshina Gata had put Kwara United ahead in the 50th minute, but Pillars who defeated champions Enugu Rangers 4-3 last week, fought back to ensure the spoils were shared.
