NBA: Joel Embiid signs new 3-year, $193 million extension with 76ers

Cameroon-born NBA star Joel Embiid has reportedly signed a new three-year, $193 million extension with Philadelphia 76ers.

Embiid, still in the second year of a $196 million extension he signed ahead of the 2021 season, extends his contract with the Sixers in a deal that includes a player option for the 2028-29 season.

The 7-feet center, who will decline his $59 million player option for the 2026-27 season, now has five years and $301 million on his 76ers deal, one of the three richest totals in NBA history.

“Philadelphia is home. I want to be here for the rest of my career,” Embiid wrote on Instagram on Friday. “I love this community and everything you’ve given me and my family. There is a lot more work to do. You guys deserve a championship and I think we’re just getting started!”

A seven-time NBA All-Star, the 30-year-old won the MVP award in the 2022-23 season, and the Olympic gold medal with Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In 433 games with the Sixers, Embiid has averages of 27.9 points on 50.4% shooting, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.7 blocked shots across 31.9 minutes per contest. He ranks first in franchise history in scoring average, fifth in blocked shots, and tied for sixth in triple-doubles.

This past season, Embiid played only 39 games, boasting averages with career highs of 34.7 points and 5.6 assists.
