American gymnast Jordan Chiles has filed an appeal in the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland after being denied a bronze medal in the women’s floor event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The appeal is the latest from the 23-year-old, who already has two appeals rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Following a CAS ruling in August, which saw Chiles stripped of her bronze medal in the women’s floor final, Romania’s Ana Barbosu was awarded the medal instead by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG)
Chiles initially finished fifth in the event, but an inquiry into the difficulty rating of her routine caused the officials to upgrade her score, moving her to third.
After the event, Barbosu and her team appealed to CAS, stating that the inquiry by Chiles and her team had been sent in four seconds after the one-minute deadline allowed by FIG.
Cas is usually deemed the highest level of sporting authority on all legal matters.
Lawyers for Chiles argued that CAS, which is seen as the foremost legal authority on sporting matters, refused to thoroughly peruse through the video footage that proves that the inquiry was submitted in time.
Chiles won gold in the team event in Paris, as part of a US team that included Simone Biles.
