AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Libya fire coach Sredojevic ahead of Nigeria’s double-header

Ahead of next month’s double-header against Nigeria, Libya have sacked head coach Milutin Sredojevic following a string of disappointing results in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

The Serbian, fondly called Micho, took over Libya in October 2023, about a month after mutually terminating his contract as head coach of the Zambian national team.

The 55-year-old led the Mediterranean Knights to seven wins, four draws and two defeats in his 13 games in charge.

In the ongoing AFCON 2025 qualifiers, Micho led Libya to a 1-1 draw at home against Rwanda, before they relinquished a one-nil lead to lose 2-1 to Benin Republic six days later.

The North Africans are currently bottom of Group D in their AFCON qualifying campaign, with a point after two rounds of matches.

The Mediterranean Knights will be in action in a few weeks time when they visit the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to face group leaders, the Super Eagles on October 11, before hosting the Nigerians four days later in Tripoli.
