Nigeria’s history maker Favour Ofili will start in Lane 9 when the women’s 200-metre final in the Paris 2024 Olympics gets underway on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old became the first Nigerian woman to qualify for the 200m final at the Olympics in 28 years, since the legendary Mary Onyali won bronze in the Atlanta 1996 Games.
She finished in second place in her semifinal, clocking a season’s best time of 22.05 seconds to finish behind women’s 100m Olympic champion Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia, who crossed the line first in a time of 21.98s. Meanwhile, McKenzie Long of the United States came in third in 22.30s.
Ofili will have a shot at winning her first Olympic medal when the gun goes off for the start of the women’s 200m tonight at 9:40 p.m. local time (8:40 p.m. Nigerian time) inside the Stade de France.
