Nigeria star Iheanacho nears free transfer to Sevilla

Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho is closing in on a permanent transfer to La Liga club Sevilla after leaving Leicester City.

Iheanacho left Leciester City at the end of his contract in June and he is now set to for a new challenge outside England, for the first time in his career.

He has spent nine years of his professional career in England since his breakthrough impact at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup where he helped Nigeria win the trophy and he was named Player of the Tournament.

Currently a free agent, Iheanacho has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Sevilla and he is reportedly scheduled to have his medicals next week.

The 27-year-old could be the second Nigerian player to join Sevilla this summer after the arrival of winger Chidera Ejuke and his signing is expected to bolster Sevilla’s attack following the departure of Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri to Fenerbahce.

Iheanacho won the League Cup with Manchester City in the 2015-16 campaign and he followed it up with FA Cup and Community Shield success at Leicester City in 2021.

The Super Eagles star was part of the Leicester City squad that won the Championship last season and he contributed five goals in 23 league appearances for the Foxes.
