UEL: How Nigeria’s Lookman set a new European record in Atalanta’s win

Ademola Lookman was on target as Atalanta recorded a 2-1 win in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16 on Thursday night.

Both sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Lisbon and it was the Portuguese side that took the lead in Bergamo thanks to Pedro Goncalves 33rd minute strike.

Atalanta however responded via Lookman at the start of the second half followed by Gianluca Scamacca towards the hour mark for a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Lookman’s goal which was scored at 45 minutes 36 seconds stood out as it was Atalanta’s fastest goal at the start of the second half in major European competitions.

It was also the Nigerian international’s first European goal in an Atalanta shirt and his 11th in all competitions this season.

Atalanta will return to Serie A action this weekend when they host Fiorentina at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday evening.
