Dessers: Nigeria forward nets brace in big Rangers win

Ayew: Ghana star shines in Crystal Palace’s Premier League win over Burnley

Cyriel Dessers found the back of the net twice as Rangers recorded an emphatic 5-0 win over Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

The Nigerian forward scored a brace against Ross County a fortnight ago which took him to double digit goals in the league.

He added another one to that tally against Hearts with Rangers’ third goal in the 44th minute after Ivory Coast’s Mohammed Diomande and Oscar Cortes scored the first and second goal respectively in the second and 37th minute respectively.

Dessers made it 4-0 three minutes after the break with a close range finish before Fabio Silva wrapped things up in the 65th minute.

Reacting after the match, Dessers told Rangers TV: “We are in a really good place and we want to stay there. We have to keep going, just focus on ourselves, do the things we have to do and that is what we are doing the whole week – working hard, doing the same thing every day and we have to keep going.

“I think it was a beautiful afternoon for everyone who loves Rangers. I think we played a really good game against a good team, let’s not forget they are third in the league and although the result is 5-0, they didn’t play a bad game and I think we were really effective.

“We did our job and and you can see the atmosphere here at Ibrox, it is an amazing afternoon.”

The victory moved Rangers five points clear of fierce rivals Celtic who travel to Motherwell on Sunday afternoon.
