Salah unavailable for Liverpool’s clash with Burnley

Mohamed Salah will be unavailable for Liverpool’s Premier League game with Burnley as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury he suffered while on international duty with Egypt at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 31-year-old picked up the injury in the first half of the Pharaohs’ 2-2 Group B draw with Ghana and missed the rest of the tournament as the seven-time AFCON champions got knocked out by DR Congo in the round of 16.

It was hoped that Salah would be ready for the home game against the Clarets after the Reds lost 3-1 at Arsenal last weekend which trimmed their lead at the top of the table to two points. Manager Jurgen Klopp has now confirmed he will not be part of the squad this weekend but could be available for next weekend’s trip to Brentford.

“He’s going in the right direction and we hope, but we don’t know, that he will be part of training next week but we will see,” Klopp said ahead of the game.

“He’s going through his paces now but it’s positive. It will be next week or the week after. If you ask him, it will be next week!”

Salah is the joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season with 14 goals alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
