WAFCON 2024 Qualifiers: Black Queens progress despite defeat to Namibia

Ghana have progressed to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations despite losing 1-0 to Nambia in the second leg of the final qualifying round on Tuesday.

The Black Queens recorded a comfortable 3-1 home win in the first leg courtesy of goals from Doris Boaduwaa (brace) and Portia Boakye.

There was however going to be no repeat in the return leg with Lydiann Nnamus getting the only goal of the game in the 15th minute which was enough to see the Ghanaian ladies win 3-2 on aggregate and qualify for their first WAFCON tournament since 2018 having failed to qualify for the 2022 event. If will also be their 13th tournament outing.


Ghana joins South Africa and Algeria in making it to WAFCON 2024 finals following their their respective aggregate victories over Burkina Faso and Burundi on Monday.

Tunisia and DR Congo also booked their place in the finals with wins over Equatorial Guinea and Congo respectively earlier on Tuesday.
