Jose Peseiro has taken a paycut in his salary to remain with the Nigeria men’s national team until after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast next year.
Peseiro’s contract as Super Eagles expired in June and he has just agreed a few hours before the team’s training camp open in Uyo for their game against Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday, September 10.
The Portuguese coach took charge of Nigeria’s men national team in May 2022 and his new deal will keep him in the country until February 2024.
The new contract also puts Peseiro as the head coach for the Super Eagles B team (home-based players) and he has the target to help the Super Eagles reach the AFCON 2023 semi-final.
The Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh was briefed on the contract agreement on Saturday night by a delegation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by President Ibrahim Gusau, the General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi and the NFF Legal Adviser, Barrister Okey Obi.
