Nigeria sprint star and world record holder in women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan announced that she has been charged by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for anti-doping violation on Tuesday.
Amusan said she has been charged with alleged rule violation for missing three medical tests in the last 12 months.
The case has been put forward to an independent Disciplinary Tribunal under the World Athletics, who will deliver their judgement before next month’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
The charge puts Amusan’s chances of defending her world record in the World Championships in doubt, pending the delivery of judgement.
Amusan, in a social media post, said: “I am a clean athlete, and I am regularly (maybe more than the usual) tested by the AIU. I was tested within days of my third “missed test”.
“I have faith that this will be resolved in my favour and that I will be competing at the World Championships in August. In the meantime, I ask that the media respect my privacy while I address these allegations in my upcoming arbitration.”
Two days after winning the women’s 100m hurdles at Silesia Diamond League, the 26-year-old extended her dominance at Tuesday’s Gyulai Istvan Memorial meet in Hungary.
She saw off competition from USA duo of Nia Ali and Alaysha Johnson to win with a leading time of 12.35 seconds on Tuesday.
Amusan was recently stripped of her 4x100m relay gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after her teammate Grace Nwokocha was found guilty of committing anti-doping violations.
