Organising Committee for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in conjunction with the government of the Ivory Coast and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have unveiled the official mascot for next year’s tournament.
The mascot inspired by an elephant, is named “AKWABA” a local dialect meaning welcome.

“AKWABA, a word derived from a local Ivorian language meaning welcome, encapsulates essential values that make it a powerful symbol of the competition: hospitality, friendship, generosity, and team spirit” read a statement by CAF.
“The Mascot offers an authentic experience of Ivorian hospitality, connects with fans, players, and nations, and celebrates the spirit of teamwork by promoting cooperation, mutual respect, and fair play.”
15 countries have qualified for the AFCON 2023, with seven more to be confirmed by September for the 24-team tournament.
The group stage draw for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will take place on October 12 in Abidjan while the finals will begin with an opening match on January 13, 2023.
