Daka disappointed by Rodgers’ departure from Leicester City

Leicester City striker Patson Daka says he is disappointed by the departure of Brendan Rodgers from the club.

Rodgers was relieved of his duties on Sunday after the Foxes lost at Crystal Palace and dropped into the relegation zone.

Daka stated the team was emotional over the news and said he feels some responsibility for Rodgers’ sacking as he was the one who brought him from RB Salzburg in 2021.

“The news has just made us all emotional,” Daka said in Leicester’s matchday programme.

“For me, he was the one who brought me to this club and I feel disappointed and partly responsible as well for what has happened.

“I feel I didn’t do enough to help him keep his job. What’s done is done. We can’t change it right now. What we have to do is stick together, concentrate and work together as a team to make sure that we stay in the Premier League, which is the target right now.

“I believe we can do that, and we will do that. It’s more of a fresh start. I think we just have to not dwell on what we have lost, but we have to look forward to the future.”

Daka has played 21 times in the Premier League this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists. He has recorded 15 competitive goals and seven assists since his arrival at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester’s misery continued under interim manager Adam Sadler following their 2-1 loss to Midland rivals Aston Villa on Tuesday, the game seeing the Foxes reduced to 10 men after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall received two yellow cards.
