Schindler replaces injured Lamptey in Ghana squad

FC Cologne defender Kingsley Schindler has been called up by Ghana to replace Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Tariq Lamptey who pulled out of the squad due to injury ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola on Thursday.

Lamptey was part of the 25-man squad that would execute the doubleheader against Angola but has been forced to withdraw which paved way for Schindler.

The 29-year-old was born in Germany but switched international allegiance to Ghana which made his first international call-up possible.

Schindler has played 26 times in all competitions for Cologne this season. He joins the squad that are currently training in Kumasi where Thursday’s match takes place.

Some of star players on ground include Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, Ajax Amsterdam sensation Mohammed Kudus, Nottingham Forest forward Andre Ayew, Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew, Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu, Leicester defender Daniel Amartey, Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams, Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku and Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo.

Thursday’s game will be the first official match for new Ghana manager Chris Hughton who was unveiled on Monday.

The Black Stars are top of Group E after two games with four points, the same as the Angolans but with a better goal difference.
