Mozambique produced an upset at the 2022 African Nations Championship on Tuesday evening after securing a 3-2 victory over Libya in a Group A fixture.
The Mambas had played out a goalless draw in their opening match, while the Mediterranean Knights lost 1-0 to tournament hosts Algeria.
The Mozambicans were keen on remaining focused heading into Tuesday’s game but they started on the back foot when Chico put the ball into his own net in the 23rd minute.
Libya controlled proceedings from here and would have thought three points where in the bag until the 74th minute when Melque Melito equalised for Mozambique. It became 2-1 to the Southeastern African nation after Nelson Divrassone fed the ball to Feliciano Jone to finish off.
The lead was extended in the 84th minute with Melito turning provider for Pachoio Lau Ha King. Libya pulled one back in added time via Anis Mohamed Saltou and that was as far as they could go.

The result means Mozambique have four points and could book their qualification to the quarter-finals for the very first time in CHAN history when they meet Algeria in their final group game.
For Libya, they are without any point from two games and are virtually out of the tournament with the other game between Algeria and Ethiopia potentially determining their fate.
