Mali and Angola produced one of the most entertaining games in the history of the African Nations Championship as they played out a 3-3 draw at the ongoing edition of the competition on Monday.
The Eagles are two-time runners-up while the Black Antelopes of Angola are one-time runners-up and last appeared in the tournament back in 2018, reaching the quarter-finals.
The Angolans got things off at Miloud Hadefi Stadium on Monday through Dilson in the 12th minute but Mali equalised 11 minutes later thanks to Hamidou Sinayoko. It was not long for Dilson to make it 2-1 as Angola restored their lead going into the half-time break.
Goal action did not arrive in the second half until the 72nd minute when Dilson turned provider for Gilberto to increase Angola’s lead.
Meanwhile, coach Pedro Goncalves would have thought his team were done and dusted at this point, but that was not to be as Mali responded first in the 78th minute with Yoro Diaby receiving the ball from Ousmane Coulibaly and finishing off the rest before Coulibaly made it 3-3 seven minutes from time.
