Done Deal: Chelsea complete signing of Joao Felix

Chelsea have finalised the signing of Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old will be at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season in a deal worth £9.7 million with the Blues paying the entirety of his wages with no option to buy him at the end of the loan duration.

Felix will wear the no. 11 shirt previously worn by the likes of Didier Drogba, Damien Duff, Oscar and most recently Timo Werner.

The former Benfica player is considered one of the best young players in Europe having won the 2019 Golden Boy award and says he wants to help his new club reach their objectives.

“Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge,” Felix told the club website.

Blues boss Graham Potter, meanwhile, described Felix as quality player that can make a difference and is ready to work with him.

“He is a quality player, and he will make a difference in the final third of the pitch. He is young, but has really good experience. The signing gives everybody a lift,” Potter said.

“He is a good age and he can play as a second striker between the lines and making a difference in the final third. We are looking forward to working with him.”

Felix’s arrival comes as a boost for Chelsea who have up to 10 players out injured or with fitness concerns.

The West London outfit are also enduring a poor run of form, bagging just one win in their last eight competitive matches and currently occupying 10th spot in the Premier League table.
