Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui is set to be away from football activities after it was discovered that he was suffering from inflammation of the heart tissues following a struggle with coronavirus infection.
The Bayern Munich fullback reportedly suffered from COVID-19 while away with the Atlas Lions at the just-concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 25-year-old was present in the starting XI for five out of seven games for the Walid Regragui side as they cruised to a historic finish in the Middle East by becoming the first African team to reach the last four of the World Cup.
The fullback missed the record-breaking quarterfinal against Portugal and the third-place game against Croatia, and it has been revealed that his omission from the latter was because of the viral disease.
Although he started the semifinal defeat to France, he was replaced at halftime by left back Yahia Attiyat Allah.

A round of tests by the team doctors showed that Mazraoui’s pericardium—a protective, fluid-filled sac that surrounds your heart and helps it function properly—had become swollen.
The Moroccan has been left out of the Die Roten squad for a winter training camp in Qatar ahead of the restart of the Bundesliga season on January 20, citing his condition as the reason.
In a post on their official twitter channel, the German champions revealed the situation and also wished the former Ajax defender well as he begins his recovery process.
