2026 World Cup Qualifiers: South Africa release final squad for Nigeria & Zimbabwe ties

South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos has announced his final 23-man squad list for their matches against Nigeria and Zimbabwe in next month’s African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Belgian, who initially named 36 players to the preliminary squad released earlier this month, has trimmed the list down to 23, with team captain Ronwen Williams, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena, and Al Ahly forward Percy Tau among some of the big names.

The former Cameroon boss also called on experienced forward Thembo Zwane, as well as Orlando Pirates marksman Evidence Makgopa and Burnley forward Lyle Foster.

In a rematch of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, Bafana Bafana will take on the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7.

They will then return home to host the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, June 11.

South Africa are currently second in Group C of the African qualifiers with three points, after a win and a defeat from two games, while Nigeria are unbeaten but in third position with two points, same as Zimbabwe with two points in fifth spot.
