Comoros caused a major upset as they defeated Ghana 1-0 in Tuesday’s round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Coelacanths famously defeated the Black Stars 3-2 during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon last year, a feat that was enough to send them through to the knockout phase in their debut tournament and at Ghana’s expense.
Stefano Cusin’s side started their World Cup qualifying campaign strongly by defeating Cape Verde 2-1 in their opener while Myazine Maolida was the one to make the difference against the Ghanaians in Moroni with his 43rd minute effort.
The victory puts Comoros two points clear of Mali at the top of Group I while Ghana sit in third place.
