2026 WCQ: Chelle awaits final arrivals as Super Eagles step up Lesotho preparations

Super Eagles to face Ghana, Jamaica in invitational tournament

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will have 20 players available for Wednesday’s second training session in Polokwane ahead of Friday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, Afrosport reports.

Eighteen players were already in camp at The Ranch Hotel on Tuesday night, with Zaidu Sanusi and Akor Adams set to join up on Wednesday. USA-based midfielder Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi is expected to arrive on Thursday.

Chelle has had to make changes to his initial 23-man squad due to injuries to Bright Osayi-Samuel and Cyriel Dessers, calling up Sanusi and Crystal Palace’s Christantus Uche as replacements. Felix Agu’s injury had earlier reduced the squad to 22 players.

Meanwhile, Russia-based forward Olakunle Olusegun is yet to receive his South African entry visa, which could leave Nigeria with 21 available players for the matchday nine encounter.

The Super Eagles face Lesotho at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday, 10 October, with kick-off set for 6pm local time (5pm Nigerian time).
