The Flamingos are one step away from reaching the finals of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic after thumping Liberia 4-1 in the first leg of the final qualification round in Monrovia on Sunday.
The Nigerian ladies were quick off the blocks and put the ball into the back of the net in the 14th minute but it was ruled out by centre referee Lare Lamngar.
The Flamingos were not going to be denied five minutes later when Shakirat Moshood broke the deadlock.
Peace Effiong doubled their lead in the 29th minute before Harmony Chidi made it 3-0 seven minutes later for her 11th goal in the qualifiers.
Substitute Blessing Ifitezue scored Nigeria’s fourth goal with 16 minutes left to go while Yassah Gwaikolo scored the consolation goal for Liberia in the 85th minute from the penalty spot after substitute Onyedikachi Ekezie committed a foul in the box.
