The group phase of the 2024 NBA Cup came to an end on Tuesday with the final round of games as teams jostled for the five remaining spots in the knockout phase, Afrosport reports.
The trio of the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and Atlanta Hawks had already booked a spot in the last eight before Tuesday’s action.
With the first phase of the NBA Cup now done, Afrosport highlights the eight qualified teams to the quarterfinals as well as the interesting matchups.
Who are the eight teams in the 2024 NBA Cup quarterfinals?
The Warriors finished as winners of West Group C and were the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals, finishing with a 3-1 record following Tuesday night’s 119-114 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
They are, however, joined by the Rockets (West Group A) and the Hawks (East Group C) as the only teams to have picked up a knockout ticket before the final round of group phase games.
The New York Knicks (East Group A), the Milwaukee Bucks (East Group B), and the Oklahoma City Thunder (West Group B) all picked up the three remaining automatic spots, while the Orlando Magic and the Dallas Mavericks managed to pick the two wildcard spots as the best-ranked second-placed teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences, respectively.

What are the matchups for the 2024 NBA Cup quarterfinals?
The 2024 NBA Cup quarterfinals will serve up some serious matchups across both conferences as the pairings have been decided by the teams’ performances in the group phase, with the top seed playing the last seed, while the second and third seeds will face off.
The East matchups will see the Bucks host the Magic at Fiserv Forum, while the Hawks will head to Madison Square Garden in New York to battle the Knicks.
In the West, the Warriors have been paired against the Rockets in a rivalry reenacting matchup held at Houston’s Toyota Centre, while the Thunder will host the Mavericks at Paycom Centre in Oklahoma.

When will the 2024 NBA Cup knockout phase begin?
The NBA Cup knockout phase will begin Tuesday, 10 December, with the quarterfinals to be played at the home grounds of the higher-seeded team, while the semifinals and championship game, which will be played at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, are scheduled for 14 December and 17 December, respectively.
It is important to note that the games played in the quarterfinals and semifinals will count as regular season games, with the exception of the championship game.
