2024 FIFA U20WCQ: 30 Falconets called up for Tanzania clash

Falconets coach Christopher Danjuma has called up 30 players ahead of their 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Tanzania next month.

The Nigerian ladies received a bye into the third round of the qualifiers after Mauritius withdrew in the previous round and Dajuma has drawn up a squad that includes the likes of forwards Chiamaka Okwuchukwu and Opeyemi Ajakaye, midfielders Taiwo Afolabi and Chinyere Kalu with Jumoke Alani and Tumininu Adeshina in defence as well as Faith Omilana and Linda Jiwuaku in the goalkeeping department.

Some of these players starred at the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica where the Falconets reached the quarter-finals. It also includes some players that won bronze at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India last year as well.

The number of participants at the 2024 U-20 Women’s World Cup has been increased to 24 from 16 in previous editions, meaning the Falconets will have one more qualification round to go before they can actualise the dream of landing in Colombia next September.

The first leg of this qualifier will be played between November 10th and 12th in the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam while the return leg takes place in Abuja a week later.
