Team Nigeria rounded up a fruitful day at the University of Ghana Legon Stadium by winning two more gold medals in the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay events at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra on Wednesday.
In the women’s event, world record holder Tobi Amusan, who won a gold medal earlier in the women’s 100m hurdles event, teamed up with the trio of Justina Eyakpobeyan, Olajide Olayinka, and Moforehan Abinusawa, to lead Nigeria to victory in a blistering time of 43.05 seconds.

Amusan, who ran the anchor leg, guided Nigeria past the finish line with ease, gesturing to the fans as she sped off. Liberia, who were the fastest in the semifinal heats, came in second with a time of 44.02s, while tournament hosts Ghana were in third, clocking a time of 44.21s.

Following the triumph of the women’s team, the Nigerian men’s team followed suit, stunning Ghana, who were the favourites to retain the title of Africa’s best relay team.
The quartet of Sunday Israel Okon, Consider Ekanem, Alaba Akintola, and Usheoritse Itsekiri ran a time of 38.41s to ensure Nigeria edged their eternal rivals.
The Ghanaians ran a time of 38.43s to clinch the silver medal, while Liberia settled for bronze in a new national record time of 38.73s.
