It wasn’t all smooth sailing from the beginning, as the Commonwealth 100m hurdles champion almost had over 200 million Nigerians in a dire state after she beat the gun early on due to crowd noise. Despite the fears of a possible disqualification, she was shown a yellow card for warning and was allowed to compete in the race.
Amusan beat Madagascar’s Fiadanantsoa Sidonie, who finished second with a time of 13.19s, to make it three consecutive wins in as many editions of the African Games after winning in Congo Brazzaville (2015) and in Rabat in 2019.
Ashley Tinashe Kamangirira of Zimbabwe won the bronze medal after coming in third in 13.59s, while Nigeria’s Faith Osamuyi just missed out on a podium finish, having clocked a time of 13.77s to finish fourth.
