Sadiq Isiyaka’s penalty was the difference as the Flying Eagles of Nigeria defeated South Sudan 1-0 in their second Group B game at the 2023 African Games, keeping their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive.
Ladan Bosso’s men succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Uganda in their group opener and needed a better result if they were to avoid having a disappointing outing in Ghana.
The game against the South Sudanese was a drab affair for most parts and it seemed the Eagles were heading for a draw until the 80th minute when the referee awarded a penalty and Isiyaka duly converted.
Full-time in Accra.

The victory earned Nigeria three valuable points which puts them level with Senegal who lost 1-0 to Uganda in the earlier Group B game.
The Hippos are through to the semi-finals, leaving the Nigerians and Senegalese to battle it out for second place in the final round of group fixtures while South Sudan will be playing for pride against Uganda.
