2023 African Games: Falconets rout Senegal to maintain perfect start, progress to semis

2023 African Games: Falconets bag comfortable win over Morocco

Nigeria’s Under-20 women’s team thrashed their Senegalese counterpart 4-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium in the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The Falconets, who defeated Morocco 2-0 in their opening game, continued their perfect start to the women’s football tournament as they improved to six points after two games, clinching all maximum points in the group.

The defending champions opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Loveth Edeh, to end the first half in front.

The second 45 minutes provided more spectacular moments for the Christopher Danjuma-led side as they doubled their lead five minutes into the half through Motunrayo Ezekiel.

A minute later, they were gifted another goal as Senegalese defender Aicha Kales put the ball into her own net. Nigeria made it four in the 80th minute as Chioma Olise got the final goal of the match.

The win ensured that the Falconets, who have kept two clean sheets in as many games, would finish atop Group B and progress to the semi-finals as they looked to defend their gold medal.

They will be in action next on Monday, March 18, when they will take on the second-placed team in Group A for a place in the final.
