Ziyech deal: PSG blame Chelsea for transfer collapse

Paris Saint-Germain have claimed that Chelsea are to blame for their inability to complete the signing of Moroccan midfielder Hakim Ziyech.

According to reports, the Ligue 1 leaders were close to securing a loan move for the former Ajax midfielder after he had agreed on all terms to move to the Paris-based club temporarily.

However, the deal collapsed unexpectedly due to Chelsea’s failure “to file the necessary paperwork ahead of the transfer deadline.”

The Athletic reports that Ziyech was left stranded in Paris and prevented from completing the transfer to PSG because Chelsea allegedly failed to submit the necessary documentation in time for the transaction to be finalised.

Due to the delay, the Ligue 1 decision makers were not willing to approve the deal as a result of the late submission of necessary documents, but PSG began the process of appealing their decision by lodging a complaint with the Professional Football League’s (LFP) legal body.

They claimed that the Blues had previously sent incorrect paperwork after all terms had been agreed on. They further alleged that Chelsea sent the correct paperwork twice but without the appropriate signature, but when the right documents were eventually sent, the deadline had passed.

The LFP met earlier today to critically scrutinise the paperwork and discuss the available options, but decided to uphold their initial decision not to sanction the deal.

Chelsea are yet to comment on the strong claims from PSG, with the French champions claiming the decision prevented them from sanctioning other deals like Ismael Gharbi’s temporary switch to Nice.

Ziyech had an outstanding World Cup with Morocco but has struggled to secure a starting spot in Graham Potter’s team with only 15 appearances in all competitions and has yet to score this season.
