Former Algeria international Hakim Madane believes an African team can win the FIFA World Cup in the next 10 to 15 years.
The reputation of the continent at the Mundial soared after Morocco reached the semi-final of the 2022 edition in Qatar last month and ultimately finished fourth.
It has led to a strong belief Africa can win subsequent editions of the global tournament, and Madane very much belongs to that school of thought.
“Yes, I nominate an African team to achieve this. I can say that after 10 to 15 years, one of the African teams will have the possibility to lift the World Cup.” Madane told CAF website.
Madane was strongly associated with Algerian club side JS Kabylie as a player and as a manager. He is presently a member of the Algerian Football Federation which is overseeing the ongoing 2022 African Nations Championship that is held in his home country.
Madane believes exciting talents will emerge from CHAN 2022 as the tournament has already produced a couple of surprising results.
“CHAN is an opportunity for the local players to stand out because major tournaments like the World Cup or the Africa Cup of Nations is for all players, but the CHAN is for locals only and this is positive because the local players now have an opportunity to shine and become professional,” Madane continued.
“The matches at this CHAN have so far been characterized by a good technical level, and in the knockout stages the matches will be more lively and not as reserved as they were in the group stages. I think there will be a great possibility for new players to emerge in the current tournament.”
CHAN 2022 has now reached the quarter-final stage with hosts Algeria taking on Ivory Coast on Friday.
Senegal and Mauritania lock horns later on the same day while Madagascar will be up against Mozambique on Saturday as well as Niger taking on Ghana.
