World Athletics Championships: Lyles revels over ‘sensational’ sprint treble

World Athletics Championships: Kenya’s Kipyegon reflects her ‘best year’

Noah Lyles has described winning a third gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships as ‘sensational’ after helping the United States to victory in men’s the 4×100 metres relay on Saturday.

The American took home gold in the men’s 100 metres and 200 metres sprints and became the first man since Usain Bolt at the 2015 championships in Beijing to win the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4×100 Metres relay.

“They are with me now. [It is] sensational.”Lyles said.

“To be honest, whenever the U.S. get to stick around and we win, it’s always going to be amazing. It’s always going to be special, because I remember a lot of years where the U.S. was not going to stick around, but here we are getting it done.

“Of course. You know, knowing that we all are killers, and the three of us got world champion, and then Brandon [Carnes] showing up and putting down, you can’t ask for much more.”

Lyles won gold along with Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Brandon Carnes and J.T. Smith.

The US were also victorious in the women’s 4×100 metres relay led by 100 metres winner Sha’Carri Richardson. The rest of the team included Tamari Davis, Twanisha Terry and Gabrielle Thomas.

It marks the first time since the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan that the United States swept the short relay in the men’s and women’s categories.
