The Zambia women’s national team have crashed out of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after suffering another 5-0 bashing, this time in the hands of high-flying Spain.
The Copper Queens were on the receiving end of a 5-0 defeat by Japan in their Group C opener and debut that also had goalkeeper Catherine Musonda sent off for two bookable offences.
Facing a very solid Spanish side that thumped Costa Rica 3-0 in their own opener was not going to easy. It proved to be the case when Teresa Abelleira and Jenifer Hermoso found the back of the net in the ninth and 13th minute to give Spain a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the break.
La Roja picked up from where they left off in the second half with Alba Redondo netting in the 69th minute followed by veteran Hermoso completing her brace a minute later.
Rendondo would equally complete her brace with the final goal of the game five minutes to the end of regular time.

The victory sees Spain and Japan move into the Round of 16 with two wins from two games and two clean sheets kept while Costa Rica joins Zambia in exiting the tournament after their 2-0 loss to the Japanese earlier in the day.
