The Super Falcons will be without two key players Halimatu Ayinde and Rasheedat Ajibade for their FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 opening game against Canada on Friday morning.
The 11-time African champions will face the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games champions in their Group B opening match at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
Ajibade and Ayinde will be absent from the match as they are yet to complete their suspension from the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The duo were shown straight red cards during the semi-final game between Nigeria and Morocco, which ended 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes.
Ayinde was the first to get marching orders in the 48th minute followed by Ajibade’s expulsion, 26 minutes into the second half.
Both players have only served a game ban, missing the third-place game against Zambia in the competition and will continue the suspension against Canada on Friday.
They will be available for Randy Waldrum’s selection when Nigeria face co-host Australia for their second Group B match on July 27.
