Women’s World Cup: Teenager Iman Beney out of Switzerland squad with injury

Switzerland’s 16-year-old midfielder Iman Beney will miss the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 after sustaining a serious knee injury in training on Tuesday.

Beney ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the Swiss’ final preparation for a friendly match against Morocco on Wednesday.

The BSC Young Boys midfielder is the fourth player that will be missing in Australia and New Zealand due to ACL injury, others are Canada’s Janine Beckie, Netherlands’ Vivianne Miedema and France’s Delphine Cascarino.

Switzerland have invited Bayer Leverkusen’s Amira Arfaoui as a replacement ahead of their Group A opening game against the Philippines on July 21.
