Drama in the Super Falcons camp continued on Thursday with head coach Randy Waldrum accusing the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of mismanaging funds provided by FIFA for the Women’s World Cup 2023.
Waldrum has been outspoken in his recent media appearances, blaming the NFF for lack of preparation plans before the team departed for a 15-day camping in Australia.
Waldrum’s initial comments attracted a response from the NFF who criticised the American tactician for dropping key players and not gve a chance to home-based stars.
Following their arrival in the Australian city of Gold Coast, the 66-year-old made another revelation that he has just been paid half of his outstanding salary from 2022 and his team have not benefitted from the $960,000 made available by FIFA for Nigeria’s World Cup preparations.
“I saw the (NFF) response to my previous comments on the other podcast and it just seemed like a really childish response,” Waldrum told the Whistle Podcast.
“In the two-and-a-half years that I’ve been here, I have never had one time that the federation came to me and asked, “what do you need coach?”.
“What keeps me going is the players, otherwise I would have walked away from this job a long time ago. Up until about three weeks ago, I had been owed 14 months’ salary, and then they paid seven months’ salary.
“We still have players that haven’t been paid since two years ago when we played the Summer Series in the USA. It is a travesty.
“I’m not going to be quiet anymore. In October, every continue was given $960,000 from FIFA to prepare for the World Cup, where’s the money?”
Nigeria will make their ninth appearance at the Women’s World Cup against Canada in a Group B match on July 21.
