Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala said she lost in the moment after taking off her cloth to celebrate her goal in Nigeria’s 3-2 win against Australia at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
The Barcelona star came off the bench to score the Super Falcons’ third goal at the Suncorp Stadium in the 72nd minute.
Oshoala capitalised on Australia’s defensive mix-up by tapping the ball into an empty net and she turned to remove her jersey as she roared in celebration.
The goal was remarkable for the five-time African Footballer of the Year, as she became the first African woman to score in three FIFA Women’s World Cup editions.
Oshoala, in her Instagram post, said her dad is far from happy with her goal celebration but it was a moment she savours.
“My dad is definitely not happy with my choice of celebration but then again, Life is a collection of moments,” she wrote on Instagram.
Oshoala will be looking to build on her first goal in Australia and New Zealand when the Super Falcons face the Republic of Ireland for their final group fixture on Monday.
Nigeria are currently at the top of Group B, level on four points with Canada.
