Republic of Ireland forward Abbie Larkin said they have better chances for a win against Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Girls in Green are hoping to end their campaign at the Mundial on a high after their early exit after back-to-back defeats to Australia and Canada in opening Group B games.
Larkin is expecting a tough challenge from the Super Falcons who lead Group B with four points, however, she believes they can get a win for their fans who have been backbone of the team.
“Obviously we’re hoping to go in and win. That’s our main goal. I think we have that in our locker,” the 18-year-old told FIFA.
“After all we’ve been through in the tournament, I think it would be great if we could end with a win. That’s what all the girls are hoping for.
“Just get a win and make our fans proud. They came all the way over to support us. [Nigeria] are going to be really tough. They got the win against Australia. They’re strong, they’re physical. But I think we have a good chance.”
Republic of Ireland are making in their maiden appearance FIFA Women’s World Cup and they have scored just a goal so far with Katie McCabe’s stunning corner-kick.
