Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons’ farewell dinner set for Saturday

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has charged the Super Falcons to work as a team to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy in Australia and New Zealand.

Senator Tinubu was represented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Women Leader, Dr. Betta Edu at a send-off dinner organised by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Saturday.

The Super Falcons will depart the Federal Capital Territory for Australia on Sunday where they will have their final 15-day camping before the Women’s World Cup starts on July 15.

Senator Tinubu highlighted the importance of teamwork to Randy Waldrum’s ladies and she encouraged them to surpass the country’s best finish at the Women’s World Cup which is the quarter-final stage.

“It is important that you remain committed by playing together as a team; no one should think that she’s better player than the other,” she said.

“It is only when you play as a team that you can record success. It is my expectation that this time, you will surpass your previous efforts.

“I am sure that 99.9 per cent of Nigerians will stay glued to their television sets to watch you. Please try your best to bring the cup home.”

Nigeria will be making their ninth appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. They are housed in Group B against Canada, Republic of Ireland and co-hosts Australia.
