Watkins optimistic on Aston Villa’s chances of winning silverware this season

Mac Allister keen on Liverpool helping Salah produce more goals

Ollie Watkins believes Aston Villa have a chance of winning silverware this season after they played out a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday night, Afrosport reports.

Watkins put Villa 2-1 up going into the break but were undone by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s equaliser in the second half.

The result put Unai Emery’s men five points shy of the top four, giving them a shot at making it again into the Champions League where they booked an automatic spot in the round of 16 in the current season.

They are also through to the fifth round of the FA Cup where they will host Championship side Cardiff City.

“The boys felt comfortable, and it’s a shame we couldn’t get three points, but we’re unbeaten here at Villa Park for a long time now and we’re making it really hard for teams,” Watkins told the club website.

“They hear the atmosphere, they see the way we play on the front foot, we’re comfortable on the ball and we make it really hard for them.

“I’m just focusing on doing my best every game. We’ve got 12 games now, (I want to) score as many goals as possible.

“I think we can really push on in the Champions League and the FA Cup and we can win something this year, so it’s exciting, and I’m feeling back to my best now.”

Watkins is Aston Villa’s top scorer in the Premier League with 12 goals coupled with five assists while he has a one goal and four assists in the Champions League.
