The Super Falcons have one foot in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after seeing off Cape Verde 5-0 in the first leg of the final qualifying round in Abuja on Thursday.
Justin Madugu’s ladies had a bye into this round after Sao Tome and Principe’s withdrawal.
Nigeria lived up to expectations, starting with Uchenna Kanu’s effort from the edge of the penalty area in the 11th minute.
Gift Monday was the next to register her name on the scoresheet with a close range effort from a goalmouth scramble in the 25th minute. Kanu went on to complete her brace in added time of the first half.
The onslaught continued in the second half with substitute Esther Okoronkwo netting a brace after connecting with crosses from Esther Ogbonna and Rofiat Imuran.
