Four Nigerian players have been named in the CAF Best XI of the Tournament following the Super Falcons’ historic run at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON),  Afrosport reports.

The quartet of Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie, and Esther Okoronkwo have all earned a place in the team of the tournament selected by CAF’s Technical Study Group.

Their outstanding performances helped Nigeria clinch a thrilling 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final, securing a record-extending 10th WAFCON title and reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.

Captain Ajibade, who was crowned the tournament’s Best Player, led from the front, winning the Player of the Match award three times in six games.

Nnadozie, on the other hand, stood tall in between the sticks, conceding three goals all tournament, including just two from open play. The Brighton and Hove Albion shot-stopper also walked away with the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

Alozie, who played all but one game in the triumphant journey, slots in at right-back. The US-based defender scored Nigeria’s winner in the semi-final against South Africa and was instrumental in helping the Super Falcons keep three clean sheets in the five matches she featured in.

Despite not starting any of the first three games, Okoronkwo had a WAFCON debut to remember. The forward was the emerging star of the tournament, scoring two goals and providing six assists.

The AFC Toronto forward was at the forefront of Nigeria’s comeback in the final, netting one goal and setting up another two to earn her the Player of the Match award.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Portia Boakye along with the South African duo of Karabo Dhlamini and Bambanani Mbane complete the back four.

Morocco captain and WAFCON 2024 topscorer Ghizlane Chebbak is joined in midfield by Bafana Bafana captain Refiloe Jane and Grace Asantewaa of Ghana, while Morocco’s Ibtissam Jraidi joins Okoronkwo and Ajibade up front.
