Victor Boniface returns to Leverkusen training a week after car crash

Bundesliga: Boniface gets redemption for penalty miss in Leverkusen comeback win

Bayer Leverkusen have been handed a huge boost as the German champions confirmed the return of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface to team training on Friday, a week after his involvement in a car accident.

The 23-year-old was involved in a serious car accident last Saturday, few hours after scoring Leverkusen’s winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

The Super Eagles forward, however, was left with minor injuries and was in the hospital for a short while despite the vehicle being totalled, which led to his omission from the Leverkusen squad that faced Brest in the Champioms League during the week.

The former Union Saint-Gilloise forward, who was pictured in training with a bandaged left hand, has been in good form for Die Werkself this campaign, with five goals and one assist in seven Bundesliga appearances so far.

It is, however, left to see whether Boniface will be called upon for Leverkusen’s visit to Weserstadion to take on Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Xabi Alonso’s men are currently fourth in the Bundesliga standings with 14 points from seven games, while Werder, who have three points less, occupy the eighth spot.
