Van Dijk feared Liverpool draw with Man United could have been worse

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk feared that his team’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Manchester United at Anfield might have been worse, Afrosport reports.

The Reds went behind through a brilliant Lisandro Martinez finish before Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah put them 2-1 up.

Amad Diallo levelled for United in the 90th minute while Harry Maguire missed a sitter in added time.

Van Dijk was disappointed with Liverpool’s overall performance and highlighted his team’s imperfections.

“It could have been a lot worse if we are absolutely honest with ourselves,” the Dutch defender said per the club website.

“They had a big chance in the end that could have been a lot worse than where we are now. I’m definitely disappointed with dropping points at home but it is what is and we have to move on and we will.

“We found the 2-1 and then it is about trying to manage the game and keep the ball for longer than three and four passes.

“We lost the ball too easily at times and then we were more open than we should have been. We’re not perfect, we’re still learning and we have to learn from this as well.”

Liverpool remain top of the Premier League standings, six points clear of Arsenal and will next face Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.
