Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana will rekindle their rivalry in a heavyweight all-West African clash in the second semi-final of the Unity Cup 2025.
The Super Eagles, led by Malian boss Eric Chelle, are without the forward trio of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Victor Boniface but will be looking to upstage their rivals and win the famous Jollof derby.
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz topped the Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 in an enthralling five-goal encounter on Tuesday, setting the tone for the rest of the event.
The two African powerhouses – Nigeria and Ghana – will lock horns in the semi-final for a chance to play Jamaica in the final of the four-nation Afro-Caribbean tournament, with the loser settling for a third-place match against the Trinidad and Tobago.
Where and when is the match?
The much-anticipated “Jollof derby” between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and eternal rivals Ghana in the Unity Cup 2025, will take place on Wednesday, 28 May, at the Gtech Community Stadium in London, home of Premier League side Brentford.

Historical Perspective – What do the stats say?
The rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana is as hold as time as fans of the two African powerhouses have been known to exchange friendly banter across social media in recent times.
The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, won the last battle between the two sides – a 2-1 win in a friendly match Marrakech, Morocco, in March 2024, with goals from Cyriel Dessers and Lookman.
In their last 10 meetings, both Nigeria and Ghana have won three games apiece and settled for a draw four times.
Players to Watch Out For
Nigeria
Tolu Arokodare: Arokodare is expected to lead the line for the Super Eagles against Ghana.
The Belgium-based forward will be looking to get off the mark in the Nigerian colours, having failed to do so in his two previous appearances.
The Genk forward won the top scorer award in the 2024-25 Belgian Pro League season, scoring 21 goals and providing six assists in 40 league appearances.
Cyriel Dessers: Dessers scored in his last game against Ghana and ended the 2024-25 season in blistering form in the Scotland.
The 30-year-old returns to the side for the first time since March 2024, and will be hoping to add to his two national team goals.
Like Arokodare, Dessers finished the just-concluded Scottish Premiership season as the top scorer with 18 goals from 35 league appearances.
