Lagos State had a remarkable outing at the NSF National Scrabble Festival in Ogun State, winning the individual and team games.
African Scrabble champion, Enock Nwali who is a student of Human Kinetics and Health Education in the University of Lagos won the individual event after claiming 20 wins and a draw for a cumulative points of 1220 from 28 rounds of games.
Another Lagos player, John Aiyedun settled for second position with 19 wins and nine losses and a cumulative points of 701 while another UNILAG student in the Department of Pharmacy and current West Africa Scrabble champion, Doko Oluwatimilehin completed the podium with 18 wins, 10 defeats and a total of 1047 points.
Delta State finished fourth and fifth in the individual events with PANASA President Cup winner Godwin Victor claiming the fourth spot and former World champion, Wellington Jighere occupy the fifth position.
In the team event, Lagos dominated proceedings followed by Delta State and host Ogun State in second and third positions respectively.
NSF National Scrabble Festival, Gateway 2024, continued on Thursday with the Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation and the biggest club competition in Nigeria Scrabble – NSF Inter-Club Challenge Finals – will start on Friday.
12 clubs will be jostling for glory including defending champions Warri SC and the star-studded UNILAG SC who dominated the individual event.
