Nigeria-born Mixed Martial Artiste Israel Adesanya will defend his UFC middleweight title against Sean Strickland at UFC 293.
The fight is Strickland’s first UFC title fight and it will come up in the Australian city of Sydney on September 10.
The Last Stylebender was initially scheduled to face South Africa’s Dircus du Plessis but the opponent is yet to recover from an injury.
Adesanya stamped his authority in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in April when he regained his middleweight belt against Alex Pereira, five months after he lost it.
On Wednesday, UFC president, Dana White confirmed that Adesanya vs Strickland fight is the UFC 293 headliner.
“The main event, Israel Adesanya defends his middleweight title against fifth-ranked Sean Strickland,” White announced.
“What I love about Israel, he’s always ready to take on the best in the world, anyone, any time. Strickland is an absolute maniac, who doesn’t back down from anyone. This will be a great fight.”
The co-main event will see Tai Tuivasa battle Alexander Volkov while Kai Kara-France has a score to settle against Angola star Manel Kape.
